Ford Focus Active 2021

Featured Replies

Hello, recently i joined the Ford Club because I found out that my car came with torsional beam rear suspension. When I ordered the car my ford dealer in Spain didn't even know what is independent rear suspension. I chose the ACTIVE because it was said to have a different suspension than the lesser models. My spec is an active mhev 155 hp and yet it still came with torsional beam. Was there a change for these models too? How could I have gotten the multilink rear independent suspension?

I think the independent suspension is only availabe on the ST and possibly the vignale if it has CCD.

I had the same issue when buying a 2021 Focus Active.  The salesman didn't know which had the IRS and I initially ordered a 155ps Active X because I thought it was the 155ps engine that also gave the IRS.  This was NOT the case and only found out by checking several other cars myself so I had to change my order.  It's only the Active X Vignale that gets IRS regardless of engine.

I was very disappointed with mine though.  The suspension setup on the Active is still poor even with the IRS.  Too rough over poor surfaces, too rolly on corners and leans back and forth under hard acceleration and braking.  The extra suspension height has not improved the ride comfort in any way compared to the standard height model imo.  If you're considering changing to an IRS model, I really would see if you can try one first as you might find the difference isn't as significant as you'd hope.

If you ever get the chance to try a Focus with CCD (or in theory any other with adaptive dampers), it works really well at stopping pitch under braking and acceleration. I've got so used to it, it's really jarring being in a car without it.

Yeah, that's absolutely what the Active needed in hindsight.  Though wasn't even an option on anything other the ST at the time.  I have tried a Leon with their equivalent (DCC) but with super low profile 18s there was only so much the suspension could manage.  So I'd need a combination of smaller wheels and DCC ideally...

Thank you, Here in Spain we no longer have the vignale or the active vignale. The most i could switch my order was to the active x (same as the active but with  dashboard screen). That screen looks horrendous so i ditched it.

as i see it there is no possibility to have petrol motor and IRS

We no longer have the Vignale here either.  Mine is technically super rare as very few were built with the 155 engine.  I think the Vignale might be coming back when the Focus get's facelifted this year though.

You are correct that currently there's no way to have petrol and IRS except the ST.
