FORD KA INDICATOR PROBLEM

Featured Replies

Good day,

I have a Ford Ka.  My indicators and hazards are playing up. Sometimes they work and sometimes they are not :-(

I have changed the relay but still doing the same.  Please help.

Many thanks

Lee

Sounds like a sticking solonoid - its a square box about 1" sq found in the fuse box. You can take it out and tap it to free it, but it'll stick again. They are fairly cheap to replace. Put the hazards on and remove the solonoids one at a time until you find the one that controls the indicators, take it to a decent autofactors and order a new one.

Thank u ... will check and hope its solves my problem. :-)

Hello Lee, I kind of think you're at crossed purposes. You say you have already checked/replaced the indicator relay. "Fiestaecoboostman" is referring to the same item only he has called it a

So you have already done that.

It is possible that you have a faulty indicator switch. Since the fault is intermittent the best option is to replace the stalk switch on the steering column.

Hi there, I have an older Ford Ka which I have scrapped due to rust... removed the relay from that one and replaced in my current Ford Ka which I am driving now.  Still does same... works then all of a sudden stops.  Play around with it and starts working again.

Then I took the unit off the older Ford Ka and put on the new Ford Ka and its doing the same.  Before I scrapped the older Ford Ka there was no issues like this with indicators (unit worked perfect) so its not the unit or the relay. So I am lost.

Regards Lee.

You need to replace the switch, forget about the relay you have proved that is not the problem.

Just odd that it would be faulty indicator switch on 2 different stalks !

The one from my old Ford Ka (which I also tried) and the existing one on my new Ford Ka

Ok you have lost me now. 🤔 Reading the above you refer to swapping the relay. I follow that and understand that it made no difference. So I said you need to replace the indicator switch on the steering column (the stalk).

and now you say that its odd that the switch would be faulty on 2 different stalks.  "I agree" but I can't see the bit where you mentioned that you had swapped the indicator stalk switch.

Good morning,

Thank you for always replying to messages.

Sorry did not mention the stalk. Let me start again with what I have done.

1.  Changed the Flasher unit (indicator relay)  - the indicators still did the same works ..... stops..... works

2.  Then changed the whole unit (stick or stalk) which consisted of both indicator lever and window wiper lever.

The indicators / hazards still did the same.  What more must or can one check or replace.  The wipers work 100%.

I am really lost.

Hi Lee, I understand you now 😀

Ok, so there is only one common point left to check/replace where both left and right  indicators and hazard lights all come together --- The hazard light switch !!

I'm going assume since your car is 2006 that the indicator circuit is wired in what was the traditional way (computer controlled these days by the BCM). So this means you have an actual real Hazard switch with multiple wires (possibly 5). When the switch is in the off position then it connects the wires for the left and right indicators with the indicator stalk on the steering column. When the switch is turned on it changes the contacts over inside so that left and right circuits are joined together and power is applied.

If you have a faulty hazard switch it can easily stop your normal indicators from working, but at the same time the hazard lights work as normal. You can test this for yourself by just disconnecting the plug from the back of the hazard light switch. You should find that your indicators don't work.
