OBD no Comms!

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 Ford galaxy the VW one, there is no OBD comms, have checked many things, and we’ve hit a wall, dash checked ok, ecu tested ok, disconnect modules and it sets lights on dash, immobiliser works, it is a cat D, MIL light never illuminated, traction control only lights up after battery reconnected once and never again until battery disconnected and reconnected. Aux heater and park sensor wiring/modules disconnected.

You need to use the VW software equivalent to FORScan (sorry don't know what its called).

Have done a basic voltage check on the OBD port to ensure there is power available ?

You say the car is a Cat D, has it ever worked while you have owned it or did you buy it as a non-runner ?

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, the vehicle ran perfectly, no issues, just was no signal to the Obd socket, pin 16 has power, pin 7 is k line, and the other two pins are ground, so that’s fine. A guy a garage basically started disconnecting modules and then the airbag light came on, and I couldn’t communicate with the ecu to clear the light. The dash diagnostic module in the dash and the ecu both tested fine but we’ve not tested the BCM yet which is part of the fuse box. I’m stuck on why else to try.

Can I ask what was the fix for this?   as mine has decided to do exactly the same for no reason...no comms to airbag controller/dashboard gateway ?     local auto elec has said he cannot find the fault;  So far its had 2 sets of clocks that he said were faulty (no change) ,  and now has admitted its burnt his head out as everything checks out using a break-out box, and no other fault codes on the car ?

In the end I seen my ***** after listening to him talking about checking that modules are communicating, I said "communications a 2-way thing, like you listening to me"....I said that its ok saying comms are going from dash to modules, but can you see it the other way around??    I said the only item left in that circuit is the airbag controller--I sourced one off Ebay for £20, told him to fit it and that fixed the car...after nearly 3 months off the road !!!    Car went in for MOT test the week after and passed with advisory that water has delaminated front number plate, I need one before next test.
