Bonnet lock barrel

Featured Replies

Allo!

For those who's focuses have mistaken them for a thief...

Was you able to put the bonnet lock barrel back in (after it pushed back and disconnected) and continue using it or did you have to fit a new one and pay a locksmith?

I'm hoping for a success story!

Allo to you too. Is the lock still operational in any way (can you open the bonnet)?

If your bonnet lock system looks like these on eBay : https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311&_nkw=ford+focus+2009+bonnet+lock&_sacat=0

Then you can easily open it with an 18" length of half inch copper pipe. Happy to tell you how if you confirm operating latch type.

Potentially a 'one post' wonder LOL Had a whole response prepared of what bits are needed, whether you wanted to keep to a 'single key' car by building your own barrel, how to get it repaired by an independent garage, (if they want to break the grill, move on!) etc etc, but was still waiting to hear if they could access the bonnet opening at all LOL 🤣 (Having had this happen now 3 times, I'm quite the expert!)

It pushed back so I can't reach it to know whether the key works it still

I have only seen the front so far, off to go get it from the garage and suss out what one it is exactly! I'll have more answers after 2pm today unfortunately. Be brilliant for some help when I've confirmed the latch type thank you so much

A mate told me we will have to pull the grill off, are you saying that there's another way that doesn't potentially break it?? Ooooh I'm excited 😆 gonna see if a long tool reaches the lock and I'll get back to you! (I'm the tool I just gotta find something long lol!)

Have a read at this thread...

You absolutely don't need to go anywhere near the grill! Once you buy a replacement lock cable, if you have a friendly independent garage, they should be able to sort it in very little time at all. Anyone you take it to that says they'll need to smash the grill, move on! The link that Unofix gave will give you the part you need, though it will mean your car will have an additional key. You do have the option of buying the same part but build the lock barrel up to accept your current key (It's not complicated but with the aid of an excellent YouTube, it will take a few hours of your time! )

Thank you so much! Got the new barrel ordered (big thanks @unofix) and, like you, I had the same BS from a garage reeled off to me but a tinkerer friend got the plastic insert for me today to use temporarily until we fit the new barrel, which will indeed have its own key but oh well, I'm just pleased I'll be able to get under the bonnet lol woohoo!

Has the barrel that you had fitted in 2020 lasted this whole time?

Well, I have been exceptionally unlucky LOL The one that I had made the barrel to use the original key lasted about a year (spent bl**dy hours building it!), then it broke! The replacement (with new key, I had no patience to 'build' another) lasted 6 months before breaking! I then ended up getting a genuine Ford one from a breaker (new, they want £100 for one!!), at a cost of £15, so far so good, but it is the most appalling design I have ever seen in 40 odd years of owning cars. Every time I open the bonnet now I keep expecting it not to latch properly. Have no idea why they just didn't stick a lever inside the cabin like every other car maker on the planet. Best of luck with yours, I'm sure it'll last much longer than I have experienced... 😁
