Greetings from new owner. Panel Custom for conversion to Day Camper.

Hi all. Just picked up my new to me Transit Custom 280Limited 2.0l 130bhp. March 21and about 8,300 miles from New.

I also have a Fista ST and generally lurk there but this lovely mint condition panel van is my treat.

I'm about to purchase a pop top roof for it tomorrow and have all six panes of rear glass in already, together with rolls of sound deadening, insulation and membrane.

You can guess the rest.

Thoughts please on passenger side seating;

I think the standard cloth is quite classy, so not sure if the RIB bed will be trimmed to match or to re-trim the seats.

Single passenger seats are incredibly expensive second hand, you'd think I'm not the only one attempting this conversion.......😂🤣

Hi welcome

Welcome Mark,

the new RIB bed normally comes as a frame that you have to have covered, so you can have it match your front seats, but if you purchase the bed already covered the bed or the front seats can be recovered to match the other.

cheers,

Jon

Thanks.

One lesson I have learned is to not jump in too quickly. I made purchase of lots of stuff and ended up not needing some of it.

Currently....

I have chosen to do this gradually.  The roof should be fitted and come with a 200W solar panel on top next week. Then the insulation, carpet and windows over the next couple of weeks.

After that comes this...

The Roof is a SCA one. Comes with the overhead light, top bed with high tech springing and a mattress. Expensive, but once you spec up the cheaper ones and realise you have to wait 4-6 months to get them it makes sense!

Seating is a Mobiframe SAF12-SLM. The 1,200mm three seat slim version. It comes with the rails already built into a cut composite floor in a nice wooden finish. Again, a touch more than a RIB Altair or REIMO but the seat is fully multi adjustable and really well made. Polish company.

Fridge Dometic CX50, Heater/stove will be a WALLAS XC Duo. I'll put a 5kw inverter in, a 110Ah Leisure battery, CTEK and domestic type 1 socket. Plumbing with be a CAK 40l underslung water tank. Filling and rear shower fittings at the back and a filler neck on the work top for dropping my spare 2l water bottles from work down.

So, once it's insulated and carpeted, it will have the bed floor fitted. Then I'll do the plumbing lines and electrics all on the back right wall. I'll then be able to begin designing the furniture layout exactly as I want it.  Will be fun, because I'll be living in it on and off by that stage. I have ideas though but no rush. Having a 5KW inverter is essential for using my power tools to drill holes, etc. Off Grid from Mid March....

You have it all mapped out and will look great and be very practical once you have finished.

I have a transit custom converted, I currently do not have the inverter or solar panels. I have a diesel heater fitted so I can use it all year round.
