What is with focus 1.6 tdci fuel filters

This has probably been covered to death I guess.

 

But are these filters lined with Gold or Platinum? I've never known a more expensive fuel filter in life I don't think to such a degree I've even noticed a market for used filters !

    The Mk2 1.6 TDCi filter has always been silly expensive...never understood why!  The Mk3 1.6 TDCi filter is a bit cheaper.

    You'll need a hand priming pump if you're going to replace the filter.

    The design of them also defies logic. Instead of having a bleed and drain valve they have a combined one.

    If you do change your one then this tip sounds stupid but it works to get it bleed.

    After drawing fuel through the filter and connecting the lines up, switch the Ignition on for a few seconds then switch it off for a few seconds, repeat that about 5 times and it should fire up almost right away.

    I think it works because it opens the return line when you switch off and that takes a lot of air away.
