Fiesta mk 8 2018 EcoBoost Remap

Featured Replies

Hi, hope someone can please advise with following.

I am looking to purchase a 2018 EcoBoost Titanium, initially I have looked at the 125 bhp model with around 20,000 miles and noticed the price differnce is quite a lot lower on the 100bhp model.

Would it pay to go for the 100bhp and then maybe get the superchips blue fin added to give it a small "boost" it states around 138 modified. My concern as not considered this before is the the additional strain on the cars engine and manual clutch and gear box.

I cant seem to see what the difference in the two models are only that 1 is 125 bhp and the other 100bhp. Thanks in advance Gavin

The difference is literally just the car's tune, that being said you will have to declare your car modified if you remap a 100ps to a 125ps, but in terms of the gear box as far as I'm aware the mk8s all (aside from the automatics and 6 speeds) use the same ib5 gearbox ford have been using for years, considering the 145ps models also use that gear box it's fine, the clutch may need an upgrade but your mileage may vary on that one

Mk 8 manual ecoboosts all use the 6 speed gearbox (Magna/Getrag 6MTT215) which as far as I'm aware has not been problematical (yet).

Not aware of a 145ps variant - Mk 8 ecoboosts have been available with 95, 100, 125 (with/without MHEV), 140 and 155ps (MHEV) afaik.

Several members on here have had the Bluefin apparently without problems. You do then end up with a "modified car" which may cause insurance issues depending on circumstances (age, driving record, etc).

Surprising if there's apparently a big difference in used prices - the 125 was only £500 more new when the model was launched.

Thank Guys, appreciate the advise I'm just turning 50 so hopefully insurance wont be to much of a difference.

only looking at this option as the price difference is quite a gap at the moment, maybe down to the strange times we are currently in, who knows.

Superchips always seem to have good comments, and tend to lean towards the safer side of remapping, I'm only looking for a small increase to match the 125 bhp model as i find the extra power useful. And also I believe I can return it back to standard if I was to sell the car later down the line.

But as you say if the cars are that similar then I'm sure it will be ok.

Have you actually driven the two engines first to compare? You might get a nice surprise from the 100PS.

Yes, the 100 and 125 have the same torque so in general driving you may not see a difference anyway. The 125/140 show an advantage at higher revs.

All depends how/where you drive.

Still surprised at the price gap - at my local dealer used Fiestas usually seem to vary more based on spec difference rather than power. That said, at the mo they've only got 9 in stock and 8 of them are 155 Mhev, the other is a 125, so not much choice there! Strange times, indeed.

I am hoping to get a test drive in the next week so will indeed see how it feels in the 100bhp,at this time just checking my options as for me the best spec version I can get with the lowest mileage is key.

And if that turns out to be the 100 then I may well find I am happy with the performance as you say, my general thinking was if I really like the car as I expect I will could I safely increase the power if I felt it needed a little more/

Hi,

If you do have any issues with insurance at all for modifications then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

It will be interesting to hear what you think- I love our 100PS Titanium and have never felt short of 'go'.
