Mk8 rattle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was wondering is this rattle normal when the engine is cold? it disappears after the engine is warm however, the same similar rattle can be heard when the engine is warmer and you rev it!

The Ecoboost 1.0 can sound a little “diesel like” when cold and refinement improves as they warm up. You can sort of hear a “tinny sound” too which could be a loose exhaust or turbo heat shield.

If your car is a 2020 MY then get it checked out by your dealer while it’s under warranty.

Hey thanks, I did give it to ford they said they didn't find anything, however I don't really trust it. You can hear a similar rattle sound very minor when revving the engine.

Hi all.. i have a 2019 Fiesta ST line and in November ( before this time you could barely hear the engine in the passengr cab whilst idling ) I heard what i could only describe as " a rough idle " a tinny sound that i thought was coming from something coming in contact with the heatshield in the area of the gearstick .. i booked it in for a warranty check on the next available date and long, long story short i have been back and forth to the local  Ford service center no less that 5 times since November 22nd last year. only to be fobbed off on each occasion.. the last time they kept the car for 8 days and told me beforehamd that the dashboard needed to come out and the engine mounts needed replaced.. guess what after all the " work " done

.its still making the sound and im going to take it to an independant mechanic this coming week to get his / her opinion.  I know this may be trivial to some people but a car with less than 19k on the clock should not be sounding like a diesal engined vehicle on idle whilst you sit in the passenger cabin.

Any ideas Ford owners ???

Definitely- very common, mine sounds like that when cold, it's perfectly normal.

I've made another vid where you can hear the rattle while revving the engine (non cold). This cannot be normal right? I heard the exact same engine which does not have this rattle! ( my uneducated guess would be to say its the turbo's waste gate)

Here's the exact same engine and how it should sound I suppose

Cold start especially is very rattly, then almost silent.
