How often for brake fluid change?

Featured Replies

My brake fluid was changed 2 yrs ago,  it's due a service and I'll probably be asked if I want to pay for it doing again . Every 2 yrs seems excessive,  I'm thinking 4 yrs would be fine. Thanks, Dave

Ford and most manufacturers recommend it’s changed every 2 years, you can of course go against that though, it’s not that important.

For what it costs (about £40), it's every 2 years for me. I'm always prepared to spend on brakes and tyres.

Brake Fluid is Hygroscopic ie absorbs moisture, and I understand this is the reasaon for changing the fluid.  Some garages can measure the % moisture in the fluid, and can then make an informed recommendation to change or not to change.

I'm going to have it done, with abs and all it's accompanying pipework it's not worth me doing it.

It's the last one on the service plan so I might as well let them do it. Thanks for convincing me  !

Nope, every two years is the recommended time.Brake fluid is really very inexpensive, not a big job for a workshop @ all.

Most used cars won't have had a brake fluid change since they finished dealership servicing around 4 years old.

If you aren't strapped for cash and having an MD service then you may as well have it done though!
