Is the plastic strap that holds the fuel filler cap onto the cover flap arm available separately? Mine is missing, and ebay lists them for other makes of car, but not Ford.

While searching for this, I found that there are two types of cap. Mine has the twist-lock type, while others are screw in. Apparently these are not interchangeable.

Were both types used in the same time frame? What was the reason for Ford using two different types?

Same problem with diesel fuel caps - bought a 2008 TCDi a month ago that I didn't notice was lacking one. So I got one from a no returns parts recovery seller on EvilBay (has Diesel in yellow, but no strap so I will need one anyway) that doesn't fit. Even a 50p emergency fuel cap from the pound shop doesn't fit.

 

So, feeling stupid, I just nodded when my father-in-law/mechanic asked to look under the bonnet. I hope he is joking when he said the engine would need to be taken out to change the battery...

Does your 2008 Diesel not have the Ford 'Easy Fuel' system ?

If it does then there is no fuel cap fitted and no fuel cap is required.

2008 is defo easy fuel system.

I tried calling my local Ford main dealer parts supplier earlier today to see if the strap was available.

Frustrating is an under statement.

After repeatedly calling and pressing option 3 for parts, all I got was a pre-recorded message saying all their operators were busy. After around one minute the phone system asked me to leave a message which I didn't bother doing. I tried pressing two for service to see if I could actually speak to someone, and got another message saying use the online chat feature.

I tried the online chat system, which I am sure was an automated system and not a real person. That asked me to give the registration and phone number and someone would phone back. As yet this hasn't happened.

Has their phone system been having problems recently?

You'll find they are all now working from home, and Netflix offers a much better option for them than speaking to actual customers! LOL 😁
