battery flat after a couple of days

Featured Replies

Hi i have had this problem since i bought the car in may,if i don't go out in it for a couple of days  the battery goes flat, obviously i changed the battery didn't help  checked the alternator all good, i read  there was a software issue (it's a 2011 titanium) so i did  some of the tests with my multimeter for battery drain couldn't see anything, so i looked on here so there were posts saying it's the radio so i pulled 7.5 fuses till the radio went off but when i started the car i had no control of the heater which was on full as the screen went off to, so i put it back some say it's the Bluetooth module which i couldn't see in the fuse area. has anyone got a definitive answer to the problem as it's driving me nuts !!

           Thank you in anticipation  Tom

also i have changed my car since i first joined so it's not a focus it's a fiesta eco titanium 2011

Makes my 4000+ posts a tad embarrassing LOL 😅

I'm confused as to why you've started pulling fuses when you said you've tested for a battery drain and didn't find anything? What sort of current draw were you getting with the car switched off, doors locked etc?

What voltage is the battery charging at?

And what voltage are you getting about an hour after turning the engine off? And then first thing in the morning?

Have you made sure that the battery itself isn't just knackered? If the battery is the original from 2011 it's most likely it is, considering it's now 11 years old

As i  said in my post bought a new battery (no change)  i pulled out the radio fuse as the post on here said some sort of inherent fault to do with the radio or the screen i took a reading on the battery whilst running the engine and it was around 14.0 the alternator is charging perfectly as for the test on the drain i did it a few weeks ago but it was below the safe amps, this fault has been on this car of this age from new due to a software problem with ford if this is the case and no one has realised that since new as it's had a few owners which gives me the impression it's been happening for a while  i was just interested if anyone has the answer ?

It is possible you got a dud when you replaced the battery, it does happen

swapped batteries with my wife's car for a few weeks no problems

Hi Tom,i have a 2011 titanium and i had the same problem a few years ago where because i don't do a lot of miles in 3 or 4 days it would just turn over even with a new battery.

I found my problem which i never thought of,i had a very small tracker device the size of a match box with a chargeable battery which was on 24/4 but would turn off when charged,it was so small and used so less i never thought of it, got rid of that and fine.

Is there anything even small that runs 24/7 or can run 24/7 until charged and also you cigi lighter is always on as mine is,it don't run off ignition so anything on it will always be on.

Now when you did that, did your wife's car experience any issues with the swapped battery?

Thanks Jason that was the kind of thing i was searching for something not so obvious, alas there is nothing plunged in i am aware of, as for my wife's battery it also drained on my car, i have also been disconnecting the battery for a few days and checking it with a multi meter it has stayed constant and fired up no problem so there is a drain somewhere just trawling about this all makes some interesting reading (including the software problems on some models

Have you checked that there is nothing plugged into the OBD port, someone may have left something in it which could be flattening the battery, also check for any fuse taps in the fuse box

I have a tracker on mine (Rewire). I have it wired in directly to the battery terminals, I know bad move, but hope to hard wire it and hidden soon. To cut a long story short this device uses hardly any current and has the advantage of transmitting my battery voltage to the app on my phone. As I do very little mileage when the voltage drops to about 12.38V I take it out for a 20 mile run and this brings it up to about 12.53V.
