Weird noise and graunching

Featured Replies

A couple of times, when moving off to drive out of a car park my focus has graunched to a stop. Both times it felt like I’d driven over some sort device on the floor to stop cars from proceeding. On both occasions I have reversed to check the ground and seen nothing. Then the car has moved away fine. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with Active City Stop detecting the car park barrier moving. Does anyone have any ideas?

Could well be A City stop if it thinks you're going to hit the barrier.

Happened to me once when I pulled up very close to a windscreen level barrier. I knew that it was safe if my bonnet protruded a foot beyond the barrier (i.e. underneath it) but I guess my car didn't know so it really slammed the anchors on!

Just don’t understand the graunching sound. I wonder if it’s because I was accelerating at the time? It felt a little bit like when ABS kicks in.

That's exactly what is happening! It performs an emergency stop with all its might - faster and harder than you can with your right foot. So yes, the ABS kicks in!
