Eco-boost 1.0 engine seized up

Anyone else experienced issues with the engine? Mine started playing up on my home from work 12 days ago. Went straight to Ford garage. Diagnosis? just plain bad luck! Car bought from new 6 1/2 years ago, 71K mileage. Surely Ford is more reliable than that? It's been suggested that the issue is with the eco-boosts engines and they don't last long. Any thoughts?

Loads of stuff on these forums about these failing . Some from overheating as once a pipe splits the damage occurs before you know the coolant has gone. That was more common on focus with this engine where plastic water pipes split. Also oil pressure problems as oil pickup strainer gets blocked with debris from the rubber timing belt which runs in oil and people ignore the oil light coming on because they don’t understand how serious it is. But percentage wise I expect failure is low.

It's unusual for them to seize for no reason. Usually the wetbelt degrades and either snaps, or the bits clog the inlet to the oil pump.

Was it serviced on time and using the correct oil

I can't find any research that the EcoBoost is unreliable - apart from the initial batch with the bad hose (and that was mainly Focus) can anyone point to any reports of  mass engine failures for the 1ltr turbo?
