MK3 - wont start, dash going crazy

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hoping for a little advise,

I have a 63 focus titanium x with push to start this evening I attempted to start the car and got an error stating “tyre pressure system malfunction service now” upon pressing the button to switch on ignition. I pushed the clutch down and press again to start and I got a clunk noise which I assume was the starter motor and then the dashboard went crazy, and appeared to perform a reboot.

as I’ve never seen this before I press ignition again and the same error appeared, then engine malfunction and the reboot process again.

head unit came on and appeared to be reset, DTR lights came on and the only way to turn anything off was to keep Hold of the power button for 10 seconds or so

has anyone experienced this before and would it indicate a battery issue?

I’ve not looked at the battery as it’s a little dark and wet at the moment however may try a jump start in the morning.

Cheers,

Lee

Flat battery is most likely, hopefully it'll jump in the morning.

yep had that happen on mine many years ago. time to invest in a new car batt

Yep, you were both right.

Managed to get it jumped started and it fired straight up, took it for a hour or so drive to give it a bit of charge and all good now, as andypsp said I’ll be investing in a new batt shortly.

thanks for the help🙂

Thats good to hear. Don't be suprised if you have the same problem every few days. Until you get the batt replaced. 😉

Don't forget to programme the new battery...

Turn on the dipped beam. Then press five times on the rear fog light button, next press three times on the hazard button. After that the battery icon on the dash should flash three times. The light flashing indicates that the new battery has been registered with the car and You are ready to drive off.

I remember when all you use to do was tighten the -ve and +ve bolts - god I'm old... 😁
