Ford Focus 2015 Mystery Problem

Featured Replies

Has anyone had this happen? A few days ago my Information screen including satnav, in car phone, radio, reversing indicator and usb aux power connections failed. I checked all relevant fuses and all ok. Took it to a local garage and was told there is a unit behind the screen that is probably at fault. Ok I thought and booked it in for the work. Drove around for a few days, all working as normal apart from the above mentioned issues. Left the car on the driveway for a couple of days and when I went to start it, the keyless entry wouldn’t work. Changed the fob battery and still nothing. Opened the door with the manual key and pressed the ignition switch and the car seems dead other than a brief message that there is a Steering Lock Malfunction. I noticed the Speedo, rev counter, fuel and temp pointers were all ‘twitching’. After a few mins everything is dead. Absolutely no power. Any ideas what the problem(s) is??

Sounds like the battery is dead.  Have you got any way to test the voltage or try a jump start?

Chap from a local garage had a look this morning and got it running using a separate battery charger of some discription. Engine ran, Radio worked again, lights were on but couldn’t disconnect the steering lock. Reckons it’s a key code problem as the car doesn’t recognise either of my keys.

Have you checked the batteries in the keyfob ?

Yes. I replaced them only a month or two ago

I presume you went through the reset process when you changed them or did you just swap out the batteries and carry on using them ?

If the engine is running, it shouldn't be a keyfob issue.  The immobiliser would prevent it starting at all.

There's a common fault on later cars where the steering lock gets stuck on after the battery voltage has dropped.  Seem to remember it just needs a fuse or plug removed and refitted.  If you have a search through the forum you should find some of the threads.
