my daughters fiesta St line 1.0 car passed mot no problem 2016 plate.....but next day she heard a horrible noise in engine..she has been told it is something to do with oil and timing belt ...its apparently a common problem which could cost anything up to over a grand....and she is worried that the engine is any good as she's heard  its a terrible engine the 1.0 ecoboost ...any other people heard about this problem

Unfortunately there are several threads on this issue, such as this:

As you will see, the usual problem is degradation of the timing belt, which runs in the engine oil, leading to particles of the belt blocking the oil pump with subsequent catastrophic engine damage.

The underlying cause often seems to be missed oil changes, use of the incorrect oil, or using an engine flush.

The MOT has absolutely nothing to do with engine noises or how reliable it is.

If the timing belt has snapped then its cheaper to buy a new engine than refurb it.

There seems to be around 1 or 2 posts a week about this issue on the forum, so have a look back for previous replies.
