2011 1.6 Ford Focus Ecoboost vibration and smoke

Featured Replies

Hi.

I was travelling on a motorway and between 60-70mph there was an awful vibration that started in the passenger and got worse eventually coming through the steering wheel. When I let off the accelerator the vibration stopped. Two days later I had an incident where there was a big plume of thick smoke from my exhaust. No warning lights, no noises, no loss of power. Car has done 55k. Been to garage no fault codes and I’m told it’s fine. Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar. I feel there is a slight hesitation when pulling away but nothing major. Haven’t taken on motorway since a bit scared to until I know cause

Just double checking, it's a petrol EcoBoost, not a diesel Econetic?

Sounds a bit like a DPF regeneration which is why I ask.  If it is the petrol though, sounds like a missfire which could be caused by either faulty injector(s) or faulty coil pack(s) as a starting point.

Did you get an 'engine malfunction' warning at the time?  If you did, there will be an engine code stored but not readable by generic garage code readers.  Either needs to be read at a Ford dealer or using alternative Ford specific diagnostics such as Forscan.
