Camshaft positional sensor!

Featured Replies

Hi, I own a 2010 fiesta 1.4 Diesel.

the last few days I’ve noticed a drop on power, didn’t think to much of it as it’s an old car I use mainly for work.

well today the engine management light came on and a further warning light, car started to shudder as if it’s about to stop.

went straight to garage and diagnostics machine came back with the above fault….anyone else experienced this? Thinking of replacing the sensor and getting full timing belt and water pump changed.

Hi. I have been battling a similar problem for the past couple of months on a 1.0 ecoboost...P0017 fault and timing is out, 25000 miles!

Ford have no idea why and are currently wanting £1500 to look at it further!

Sorry that doesn't actually help or answer you but I would also be interested to know any ideas.

I don’t know the answer but it’s a million times easier to do the belt on 1.4tdci than 1.0 eco boost.  Is the fault code saying camshaft sensor is not giving a reading or it is saying the position is wrong.   If for example the position is wrong because the idler wheel between the crank pulley and camshaft pulley on the timing belt has a failed bearing and hence shortened the run of the belt then replacing the sensor is not needed

Hey,

thanks for getting in touch.

I have had it back down to the mechanic and on the machine again.

same results as last.

waiting on getting the new sensor and see if it helps.

I do have the car booked in for timing belt, water pump and aux belt….so hoping it’s none of these that are causing the sensor to show a fault.

I am aware though that a stretched timing gain can cause the same error code, don’t know if that helps with any of your faults.

btw the sensor online from ford is £35 and it’s only held on with one bolt, it’s 100% not £1500 worth of work.
