Aftermarket navi with android problem ford focus mk2

Featured Replies

Hi, i had one ford focus mk2 2006 ghia 1.6 and i bought from amazon one navi with android, but i have one problem, all the time is stopping when i turn off engine, but i want to stay on and i can just turn on display, because i need to wait all the time for starting like a phone .. how i can do that for stay all the time on ? Thanks !

I have an Android head unit in mine and there is an option to keep the stereo on for a certain amount of time. The stereo does not stay on after turning the ignition off but the lights on the buttons to the left of the screen stay on for the desired length of time. I think on mine it can be set anywhere from 0 to 60 minutes. I can't use the stereo whilst the ignition is off but it is in some kind of low power state to as soon as I turn the ignition on the stereo comes on straight away.

It's great if you do lots of stopping and starting as it means you don't have to wait for the full boot up procedure of the head unit but no use if you want to sit in the car and use the stereo with the ignition off.

I have been thinking of a way in which I could have the stereo on with the ignition off and a few ideas have come to mind:

  1. Connecting the stereo to the permanent live from the ignition controlled live stereo connection (This would result in the stereo being on all the time and would probably mean you would flatten your battery)
  2. Using a relay which switches on when the the ignition is switched off to keep the power to the ignition controlled power wire to the stereo live (I have seen some which will only stay on for a set period of time i.e. 10 mins, 30 mins or an hour)

I know with the original ford radio you could keep the stereo on for an hour so maybe there is a way of making the android head unit do the same?

When ignition is off are you able to turn the screen back on or not? If you can't then you will need to switch the wires at the back as they are not recieving a 12v feed after the ignition.

Was this a reply to me? or the original post? If for me then no you can't switch the screen back on but if I was to swap cables around wouldn't that mean the stereo would remain on all the time?

It wasn't for you no, it was for the OP.

Not necessarily no, it wouldn't mean it would stay on. It would still receive the trigger that one of the power inputs (the ACC) was gone so it would turn off, and still be able to turn back on.

To be honest that's an old design issue, mainly with Sony units. They had their red (permanent 12v) and yellow (ACC 12V) wires switched so you had to connect red to yellow and yellow to red to make it work properly.

I may well give it a try, thanks for the info 🙂
