Does anyone know what the CAN BUS box does that comes with android head units?

I have googled and it mentions audio controls for the steering wheel, my audio stalk works with or without the CANBUS box plugged in so I did a little more searching and it mentions you can get popups on the android headunit for when a door is open etc. 

Has anyone got this to work or know any more info?

My car is 2010 MK2.5 (Facelift)

My android head unit displays the battery voltage at the top of the screen plus if you alter the climate control settings it briefly displays a schematic of the blower directions and temperature settings for driver and passenger. Though the temp values are actually reversed for driver and passenger if you have different settings. I’m assuming it pulls this info from the canbus. My steering wheel controls wouldn’t work till I had the right settings for canbus box.

I’ve seen some units for other brands that give door open warnings but not worked out if I can get mine to do that, expect if I could it’d need reversing too as it’s probably defaulting to LHD car. 

Did you manage to get this working? There’s loads of options to choose from on my android HU, no idea which one to select. Could try them all I suppose…

From what I've seen, it depends on the radio itself on what is available to you. Some sites say you can download the CANBUS protocol or build one yourself. I haven't had any luck since most of those sites are russian. 

 

I am having issues with my andrioud HU and a parasitic drain on my anroid radio. I tried one of the prefabbed CANBUS settings and whilst driving the screen froze and I couldn't do anything with it at all. Try a few options and see what works for you. 

Sorry to double post, I purchased one that had specific connections to the CANBUS, we'll see if that one works. The previous one I had was specifically missing the connections for the CANBUS, it cause dhte GEM module to never fully sleep.
