Help needed 1.4 tdci

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a ford fiesta 1.4tdci 2004 car which is jerking slightly at all speeds, was only on motorway at first.

I have replaced the maf and fuel filter and performance increased substantially. Also put egr cleaner through intake and redex a few times to no avail.

No fault codes stored, no elm on.

Has anyone any idea what to check next?

Is it likely to be injectors?

Thanks

What did you use to read the DTC's  Was it a generic code reader ?

Use FORScan software on a laptop and you most likely find that there is a DTC logged.

What is the mileage on the car?

I have used both a general plug in and a Bluetooth one. Its on 135k ish

You won't get Ford specific DTC's with a generic code reader.

At 135K your 2004 1.4Tdci will be due some major serving. Have the injectors ever been changed before ?

I will have a look what forscan says with the Bluetooth reader, don't really want to replace injectors, I don't really have the money tbh. Can forscan code them?

Yes FORScan can code injectors but you need to use a laptop with a lead. You can't do programming using Bluetooth/Wifi

Have codes coming up for maf and egr, will take egr off and clean and check opening etc, check intake for vacuum leak after maf, hopefully not electrical 😞

hey bronstern, i have a 2007 1.4tdci fiesta and it "had" injector and injector wiring faults but i was getting codes, after changing 2 injectors and remaking the wiring it behaved for a little while then the EGR started to stick and i was getting slight juddering without any codes. not long after that changed to being EGR Frozen and with a code. i have a new EGR im hoping to fit today i'll let you know if it stopped my judder, but if i had to guess after how mine went i would say the EGR is starting to stick and it WILL jam up if not sorted. there's some good guides about on here with how to clean them its not a hard job but it can be tricky to get too.

good luck and i'll report back if i manage to get a dry couple of hours to go change mine with any updates.

also if it is the injectors you can get 2nd hand from a scrap yard mine cost me £35 each and they DONT need to be coded on the 1.4TDCI if they are siemens injectors.

Thanks for the suggestion unofix, I got some error codes, have removed and cleaned the egr with egr/carb clean was caked but not as bad as I have seen on other cars.. I have checked the wiring to the maf cant see anything wrong and tried to check for vacuum leak again not finding anything. Any more ideas?

Codes from forscan are below

well i changed the EGR and have since only done a couple of short trips but i can confirm its like driving an entirely new car. Judder has gone when rolling at a steady pace, smoother on acceleration, more responsive and the engine just sounds smoother in general.

wont know what its like on a good run until next weekend when i get the chance to take it somewhere but so far so good and i would say it deffo made a difference.
