18 plate st line x 140 engine failure

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,I have an 18 plate focus st line x 140,had it nearly a year and has only 22 thousand on the clock, knocking in the engine started Sunday,it was booked in for a service on the Tuesday,to be told the engine is buggered.... is there any avenues I can go down, has anyone had the same issue ?

Hi Dave,

Sorry to see that.

There are many threads on here about ecoboost issues if you search around a bit in the Focus and Fiesta forums (you'd be better posting your query in the Focus forum btw), but usually cars older than yours

There was a problem with coolant pipes in the early days of this engine, but common issue nowadays seems to be loss of oil pressure due to blocked strainer/oil pump leading to engine failure. Underlying cause of that is usually debris from degradation of the timing belt, which runs in the engine oil, due to missed oil changes, or use of incorrect oil. Unless you have taken out an extension, you are out of warranty of course, but Ford have been known to make goodwill contributions if you have a full Ford service history.

18 plate is very late for the 'usual' EcoBoost issues! 😮

After joining numerous groups etc it's happening to 19 and even 20 plates,it was serviced 6000 miles ago at a Ford dealer as well

I guess 2018 is 4 years ago now, but I'm still surprised it's happening to such recent ones as 20 plate.  Wouldn't have thought they'd had long enough for the oil to degrade through short journeys, and I assume main dealers aren't using engine flushes.  Was there any explanation given for those ones?

Oil can degrade on brand new vehicles if not warmed up properly for condensation to burn off.
