Which model do I have?

Featured Replies

I thought it was a mk8, but now I think it's a 7 facelift (7.5)? Its an 18 plate, built in 2017.

Autoexpress has a mk7 test 08-17 and a mk8 test 2016 onwards ! I think the 7.5 came out in 13. I've tried Ford etis but it just tells me the colour,  is there a site where I can input my Vin and get more details? Thanks, Dave

Ps. Looks like this. Screenshot_20220213-113312_Chrome.thumb.jpg.04636766df01b84b6ae6154d90c1ad50.jpg

That's a Mk8.

Thankyou,  I generally try to research stuff first but I was going around in circles,  cheers

I thought the Mk8 came out in march 2017, not 2016. As said above, the one in the picture is a Mk8.

Thanks for the confirmation,  according to wiki. the mk8 was announced in Germany end of 2016, so maybe available here from March 17 !

Thought mk8 came out either May/June or July 2017?

As said picture shows mk8

The mark numbers are different in different countries. In the uk we are one mark higher than in some other countries for the same car. This makes parts compatibility lists tricky.   Eg a mk7 going by uk numbering is often shown as mk vi (Roman numeral 6) and so on.

I stand corrected. you might be right. There are quite a few 17 plate mk 7.5s on Autotrader. These came out March/April 2017 onwards. I think that's when the road tax system changed too.

Yes, as Isetta mentions, we in the UK are out of step with everybody else since we called the Mk 4 Facelift the Mk 5, so what we call a Mk 8 is a Mk 7 everywhere else, and our Mk 7 is a Mk 6 elsewhere, and so on.

To add to the confusion, most 17 plates will be Mk 7.5, though some early Mk 8s were registered on a 17 plate - I recall Autocar's original Mk 8 road test was of a 17 plate car. Easy enough to tell anyway - Mk 8 has the tablet like screen stuck on top of the dash and horizontal rear lights which are partly on the tailgate.

Ok, I think I've got it, I forgot to factor in the 7.5s ! I knew that 7th generation is known as the mk8 ( here ). Thanks for all the comments, that's been really helpful, when I need spares (discs, pads, oil filter) at least I'll know what to buy, thanks

Yes April 2017 was when the road tax system changed. I think a lot of people were trying to get their new vehicles registered 31st march 2017 to get cheaper/free tax.
