S max power steering problem

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 s max 2.0 tdci.  When I start the car everything is fine for about a minute then the battery light comes on and the power steering goes off.  Restarting the car and everything is fine again for about a minute then it all happens again.  I have flushed the system and cleaned out the reservoir. I found no crap in the system at all.  Also replaced the v belt and the tensioner seems fine....any ideas???

If the car has electro-hydraulic steering this could be a side effect of whatever issue is causing the battery light to come on?

I've never heard of an electric and hydraulic system before. Researching I've found a bad alternator would cause the pump not work due to a low voltage  Thanks for solving a lot of head scratching as to how a bad alternator affects a hydraulic system!! New alternator ordered

Instead of a belt driven pump, hydroelectric power steering uses an electric pump instead to pump fluid around.
