Annoying ICE update message

Featured Replies

Hi

The car asks to connect to WiFi for updates every time I start.  An annoying button press needed to clear it.

I’ve run the update cycle (house WiFi) several times but it’s always slow, problematic and the message keeps coming up.

is this a ‘feature’ or is my car needing a dealer plug in to get back into synch?

Just do the update manually using a USB pen drive.

You can download the updates from the Ford Sync 3 website or you can use a company called CyanLabs (easier to use), either way you get the same updates.

Thanks for the reply.

For anyone who reads this later the ford online support is quite good, you’ll need your VIN and a usb.

There are some really annoying caveats, which I have found by trial and error, I ‘know what I’m doing’ yet I still haven’t achieved the update:

You may need to change a format setting on your usb stick.  It needs to be formatted a certain way and also a setting applied which ,any or may not be already done depending on the usb stick model.

you’ll need to be confident unzipping and moving files

the usb stick needs to be large to deal with the maps, it’s a 2 stage update

if you don’t get it right, it can be hard to tell because there is a silence when you plug the stick in

You need to be on a long run to do it esp maps.

like I say, mine still hasn’t worked yet, I will update those specifications and settings above when it actually works, although you’ll find various reports on forums

Turn wi-fi off in settings
