MK8 Fiesta 1.1 Ti-VCT Rev Hang and Ticking noise in cabin

Featured Replies

Hello folks!

I recently bought myself a fiesta 1.1 second hand. I love the car, however there are 2 things that bother me when driving the car. I've noticed that the car has some ridiculous rev hang, when I go from first to second at 6k rpm it takes a solid 3-4 seconds for it to drop down to the appropriate revs to shift into second. Is there anything I could do to reduce the rev hang? Next thing I've noticed is at idle, the car sounds like it has a clock ticking away in the dash rather loudly. Is there anything I can do to stop it? That's all!

By the way, sorry if this ends up in the wrong area, I'm new to this forum!

At 6k rpm you press the clutch then you wait for the revs to drop before shifting? What revs are you waiting for it to drop to?

That's a very odd way to change gear, it must play hell with the clutch, why don't you just change gear normally ?

A degree of "rev hang" is inevitable on most modern cars due to emission control measures.

Unless you are aiming to do 0-60 runs (preferably away from the public road), there is no reason to be revving to 6,000 rpm in first. Around 2-3,000 should be fine for normal driving.

Thanks for the replies. To clear things up, I don't ever let it rev to 6k RPM when driving normally. I only do this when I do deicide to have some "fun" or driving on a track. It just annoys me when I have to wait ages for the revs to drop down enough to shift into second as the ratio between the two is quite different. The other gears are more closely matched making is less of an issue. From first to second I have to let it drop from 6k down to around 4k  to be able to shift smoothly. The others are around 4500-4800 for a smooth shift.
