Sync 3.4 Sat Nav Voice Stutter

Featured Replies

Posting this just for interest really...my Sat Nav has suddenly developed a speech impediment! Out of nowhere it will now occasionally break up/pause either mid-word or between words. It's entirely random, and is nothing to do with particular words or phrases.

I asked the great guys at CyanLabs, and they suggested an update- so I updated my version of Sync 3.4 to the latest, but that didn't make any difference. Then they suggested replacing just the four nav voice files, but that didn't help either. My last resort was a Master Reset, which I had wanted to avoid as it's such a pain losing all my nav favourites. So, I upgraded the version of maps as well- 90 minutes! -and then did my reset. Still no improvement. Aaarrgghh! They reckon now it must be hardware (APIM), not software.

As long as it doesn't deteriorate it's livable, though just annoying when I like everything to be 'right'.

Anyone else ever had the same issue though?

Mine did it this week when trying to ask it to make a call.

I don't use it that often though. I wondered if it was just because I hadn't long started the car, so the CPU was still busy loading things. It has been theorised that it is a CPU resource allocation issue which causes the USB stuttering.

Interesting! But I have never used voice activation at all- no idea how that is behaving! This is purely (as far as I know) affecting route commands on the nav.

Mine does it from time to time but I mostly use Waze or google maps via android auto now as they are much better than the built in sat nav anyway.

Have you got the "Arkwright" voice mode se,se,selected 🤣

did you ever modify your car previously to this problem occurring using Forscan?

I used my sat nav the other day and noticed the speech stuttering, never noticed a problem before.

No, just an update to Sync 3.4 and F9 (now 10) maps from Cyanlabs.

ah ok, because I wonder if resetting the some part of Sync 3 using Forscan may fix the issue..

I would very much doubt it. I think Alex is correct...

If it is the resource issue, I wonder why it just suddenly starts after being perfect for (in my case) a year beforehand?

Okay, I seem to have fixed it...previously I had just done an autoinstall of the updated software but this time I've done a complete reformat of my SYNC, again guided by the great folk at Cyanlabs. I've just had a successful, stutter-free test drive. Here's hoping that is it sorted now and whatever bug I picked up, has done one!

nice, thanks for the update.

This same voice hesitation started in my Focus about a week ago.  It was on SYNC 3.3.

I did a master reset.  I did the simple (not Cyanlabs) upgrade to 3.4 from a USB stick*, but that didn't seem to fix the problem either.  I did another master reset.  Still had the problem.  Day or two later, I did a SYNC reboot (press the radio "ON" button and the ">>|" button simultaneously for a few seconds) before going for a drive.  Problem seems now to have gone.

*I'm not sure that the upgrade worked 100%, because no log file had been written to the USB stick at the end of the upgrade process.  Anyhow, I've not got SYNC 3.4, and the voice hesitation has gone, so the only problem is that I can't update the record on the Ford site to show that the vehicle has 3.4 now.

If you have 'Over the Air' updates turned on in the Sync settings, then it will send the update log to Ford sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Question, For First_Time_Ford_Owner.

hi. Does the reboot (using radio on + >> buttons) result in losing the sat nav favs etc please?
