Looking to buy a used 2012 1.0 125bhp titanium fiesta - but is this Ecoboost coolant pipe issue fixed?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Very keen on a private sale of a Fiesta I've found. It's a 2012 but has the 2013 look (not sure how, it was made in Dec 2012 though so maybe that's why). Only 2 owners from new, 62k miles, full service history at Ford etc. Seems an incredible buy for my budget and a FAR more economical choice than my 07 ST2 Focus.

The only negative seems to be the mass amount of drama the Ecoboost engine seems to have online and from some garages. My local mechanic said Ecoboosts suck, but another one said they're great. But my main fear and hesitation is in the coolant issue that seems prevalent in 2012/3 era fiesta 1.0 engines. In light of this I asked the fella selling to show me a pic of the engine. I've attached it here but need help because I can't see any evidence of the 't-bar' bit that seems to cause the issues. I know usually it's nylon that gets replaced with rubber, but this car looks as tho it doesn't have that pipe at all.

So ideally, if someone with a bit more knowledge could tell me if it looks fixed in this model, I'd be very grateful. Going to look at it tomorrow with a view to buying as it's less than £5k and I think it'll sell at weekend if I don't get it. Don't wanna miss a good deal, but also don't want to get stuck with a lemon that has an engine that will fail in 10k miles. Any general thoughts on Ecoboost 125bhp 1.0 titanium fiestas is welcome too - especially with any insight into remapping as that seems promising. My only other option is a Yaris or Civic but they have pretty underwhelming engines and mileages for my price range.

Thanks for the help,

Craig

On a 2012 model the wet timing belts are due to be changed NOW !!!

Expect to pay about £1200 at your local Ford dealer

It's only done 62k miles. I'll ask the guy selling it about the belt tomorrow.

They have to be changed at 10 years, it dose not matter if its only done 1000 miles.

They are not know as ecoboom engines for no reason.

Failure to change the oil with the exact grade at least once per year and change the wet belts at 10 years is a guaranteed recipe for failure.

Thanks mate. I've decided against it. can't afford for something like that to happen. Think I'll just get a 1.6 petrol or something instead
