New DPF on 2009 Focus and now getting error code P2584 (Fuel Additive Control Module Requested Mil)

Featured Replies

Hi

We had a new DPF Installed on a 2009 Ford Focus (not by a ford dealership) after it became completely clogged with Ash and went into limp home mode. Shortly after the installation we started getting error code P2584 (Fuel Additive Control Module Requested Mil). We took it into a Ford garage for a PAT fluid top up and they checked the tank level and it was full.

They guys at the dealership recommended that we scrap the car as there could be a fault but we are not in a position to do that and up until the DPF the car was running great. I am just wondering if something was missed or during the installation of the DPF? I noticed that since the installation I don't think I have seen the car regen and that included a few long motorway drives.

Any ideas that might mean we wont need to scrap the car?

Thanks

If the FACM isn't working correctly, the DPF won't be able to regenerate.  That will most likely have been the cause of your blocked-solid DPF in the first place.

You really need to get a more specific fault code using Forscan before we can advise any further.  But the most likely repair at the moment would be fitting a used Eolys tank/injector from a scrap car.

Hi thanks for the reply

The car had done 80k plus miles when DPF was replaced and the actual blockage in the DPF was for ash and not soot, up until that blockage it was performing a regen without a problem. The P2584 error seems to have started since the DPF was replaced, I have read somewhere about resetting the  eolys counter, would that be a possible cause?

Not really a mechanic so just trying to get an idea of possible causes.

Thanks

Ah, I misread when skimming earlier.  The garage must have refilled the Eolys at the same time as fitting the DPF for it to be full now?

If that's the case then yes the additive counter should have been reset.  And if the system was empty, it needs to be primed as well.  Both are service functions within the Forscan software.

Well fingers crossed that is the problem, I have ordered a connector from Amazon and will download the software onto my laptop and give it a go. Not used Forscan before, do I have to prime before resetting the counter?

Thanks

Reset the counter first so it primes on a 'full' reading.

I use tunnelrat elm327 modified with my forscan,, brilliant is forscan but can be a bit tricky to keep renewing every 2 months,, takes me a couple of minutes to remember how hahaha  I should just buy a 3 year code
