Purchased a 18 plate Focus from an approved Ford Dealer

Featured Replies

So I've purchased a new focus from an approved ford dealer, am I being fussy?

After a day I noticed a springy sound on the clutch, almost like I'm about to snap a wire, or spring, of course it's just a sound and with music on I don't really hear it, but now I feel it under my left foot, so I called the company and they asked me to bring it in for them to look at, while I was on the phone they also advised me there was an outstanding recall on the car, so I asked the natural question of was this car sold to me with an outstanding recall on it, I was advised it was raised in the last 24 hours. - Either way they are going to look at it, advised that it would take an hour and I couldn't have a courtesy car? WHAT??!! I was advised the clutch might just need some grease, I was a little horrified, should this of been checked?

Parking the car today, I got a Hill Start Assist warning, the anti-lock brake system has a communication problem.

I called them again and they're getting me in tomorrow, this is the 3rd car in a row I've purchased from the same well-known ford dealer but am I being a grumpy man and fussy, this will be like 3 times taking it back after spending £16,000?

I love fords, this is not a rant about the car, but I wondered if anyone else thinks I should just zip it and get on with it, or is this really a problem to stamp your feet about.

Jamie go here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

stick the reg no in and scroll down passed the MOT history and you see a section on recalls, if there are any you should see a date for when any recalls were issued.

There is a return spring on the clutch pedal.  It's most likely just that squeaking rather than an actual fault.

HSA fault is often caused by low battery.  It could be an ABS fault but unlikely on a car of that age.

I don't think you're being fussy or grumpy, but sadly modern Ford's aren't as good as the older ones, and with the way the country/world is at the moment, dealerships do t seem to be doing half the work you'd expect them to.  I bought a Mk4 last year from a well known main dealer franchise that arrived in such a shocking state for 2 years/10k that I returned it for a full refund and looked elsewhere.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your time in replying, I will check this.

Oddly the hill start assist fault cleared itself.
I think you may well be right with the return spring, it just feels weak or buckled slightly. It’s an odd noise or feeling to explain.

Thanks again.

Jamie

You won't get a courtesy car provided on the basis of a recall/update as I found out late last year and ended up getting a bus home for the 16 mile trip. Thankfully the Mrs had her bank card on her otherwise we would of been stuck in the town centre from 0900 to 1530 on a very bitterly cold December day.
