Replace AC drier at the same time as compressor?

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a leaking AC compressor on my 2013 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost. I am aware it is recommended to replace the drier when a new compressor is fitted and I'd be grateful if anyone knows how much additional work this requires? A mechanic mate of a mate has offered to fit the compressor 'after hours' but he seems to think replacing the drier is significantly more complicated than just doing the compressor.

Thanks in advance.

The drier is part of the condenser on the Mk3 so not easily replaced.

Aha, thanks. So… how dumb is it to not replace it? Really really dumb, or just a little bit dumb? 😀

Is the AC system actually empty?  If so, how long has it been left open?

Personally I wouldn't change it if the compressor has only recently failed and you're sure there aren't any leaks on the condenser.

Erm… it’s probably been leaking slowly for a couple of years, but has been re-gassed twice in that time. The last time was in June and the AC was pretty much non-functional within a week. No leaks from the condenser as far as I can see.

I also am interested in this. My high side line at the compressor broke some time over the winter. The line that wraps around in front of the compressor clutch. Don't know how long it's been broke. Planning on line, compressor, and drier, but like you I'm seeing any info onchanging just the drier, only the whole condesor. 2012 Focus SEL
