Bolt Thread Size

Featured Replies

Hi does anyone know what the bonnet bolts are on a fiesta 2015 mk7/7.5 please.ie M8 x 1.5 Thread or 1.25 Thread ?

M8 x 1.25 is the standard M8 coarse thread most often seen. M8 Fine is usually M8 x 1.0

Working in engineering, I have never heard of M8 x 1.5.

Find a regular M8 nut and bolt, and check that both fit together.

Remove one bonnet bolt and see if it will screw into the nut. If it does it is almost certainly M8x1.25

Be aware that a 5/16 x 18 TPI UNC Inch thread is close to 8mm x 1.5. However I think it would be unlikely to find this on a modern UK market Ford.

What are the markings on the bolt head?

Which bolts? The ones that connect the bonnet to the hinge are M6.

As Antonov has said, the bolt will not have a thread pitch of 1,5

Possibly a 1,25 (coarse) but could be 1,0 mm (fine).

Looking at the parts catalogue for a 2015 Fiesta Van the number specified for the bonnet hinge to body is 5143379 (M8x25).

Doing a quick calculation from a photo of the bolt I estimate it has a fine thread but you can easily check by removing one bolt and counting the number of threads over a half inch length i.e. if you count 12 to 13 threads it's fine or 10 it's coarse.

MarksST mentions a 6mm bolt. The diagram I'm looking at shows they attach the bonnet to the hinge and are a nut (1422522) & bolt (1095074) combination.
