Can't find electronic sensor shock absorbers for 08 Mondeo?

Featured Replies

Hi Ladies and Gents,  Fords and Fordesses,

Hope everyone's had a good week so far 🙂

So I can't for the life of me find front left + right shock absorbers which are compatible for my 08 Titanium X Mondeo. I put my reg in on eBay and bought what it told me were acceptable shock absorbers. Then my mechanic calls me to tell me they're wrong as they don't have the sensor... Turns out 99.9% of shock absorbers "aren't compatible with electronic controlled shock absorbers"

So I called Eurocarparts and a few other "known" parts dealers, and all said "they're rare to find, probably best going to Ford Dealer". Problem is they want ridiculous £££ and a long delivery time.

I really don't know what to do, I'm due to call my mechanic tomorrow with an update. He's doing my front right wishbone and top mount and I need the shock absorbers changing anyways.

Does anyone have any advice or info please? Going dizzy after the amount of websites/calls I've made all saying they don't do it with the sensor. How silly is this? They've stopped making a part?

Cheers peeps x

Is this for adaptive suspension?  I wasn't aware the Mk4 Mondeo even had that as an option so must be pretty rare!

Sadly, the only option will be main dealer or used from a scrap yard if you can find any there.  Not much else you can do if the aftermarket manufacturers don't produce them.

I suppose you could just fit standard ones all round...but that's likely to reduce the ride comfort & handling compared to what you've been used to.

Edit - I've just checked 7zap.  Looks like there are quite a few different setups available on the Mk4.  I'm guessing it's this one?

  • from 03.09.2007, to 22.12.2014, Mondeo 2007-2014, IVD With Continuous Damping Control, With Standard Rear Shock Absorbers

In which case, front part numbers are 1744690 & 1744699.

One brand new genuine drivers side here.  Might be worth asking if they have both - Genuine Ford Mondeo 2007 - 2014 Front Shock Suspension Strut. New! 1744690 | eBay

Or a pair of aftermarket Monroe's here -

NEW SHOCK ABSORBER FOR FORD MONDEO IV TURNIER BA7 UKBA UKBB AZBC TBBA MONROE | eBay

NEW SHOCK ABSORBER FOR FORD MONDEO IV TURNIER BA7 UKBA UKBB AZBC TBBA MONROE | eBay

Or those same Monroe shocks from buycarparts here -

1744699

MONROE C2504R Shock Absorber Electronically adjustable shock strength, Gas Pressure, Suspension Strut, Bottom Clamp, Top pin buy cheap online (buycarparts.co.uk)

I know none of those are cheap and may not be viable on a 13 year old car.
