How many Yanks?

Featured Replies

Hello all:

I'm a severely infrequent visitor here, but I was wondering, how many of us Americans are here?

I love my Focus & I just recently crossed the 45k mile barrier on the odometer.

Anyway, I've nothing to contribute; I was just wondering.

Hello Eric, what engine do you have ?

Best not to start this again after a previous thread...  It's a US spec NA 2.4, wasn't offered over here!

Ah !!

A 2.4L Diesel not that much different to mine.

It's not like they would have a 2.4L petrol, that would just be crazy when they could have a 3 cylinder 1.0 ecoboost 🤣

Lol, it is indeed a 2.4 'Gasoline' engine...fuel prices and emissions presumably not a problem over there!

Can you imagine trying to convince them of the benefits of a 1 litre, 3 pot!  'Where's the other half!?'

I'm so very sorry. I am horribly terrible about responding to everything: texts, emails, you name it.

My car has a US-spec I-4 Flex Fuel engine which means it can use ethanol-free gasoline (straight petrol), standard US unleaded gasoline (10-15% ethanol), or E85 which is a blend of (at least) 70% corn-based ethanol and traditional gasoline.

I hope that helps.

Before it was discontinued, the Fiesta used a turbo charged 3-cylinder engine here in the US. 🙂

We never got the diesel, but we did get the 3-cyl Ecoboost for the Fiesta.

I really can't see that going down well over there and am not surprised it has been discontinued.

But after all that about engines, I see no-one has answered your original question! I do have a feeling there are a couple of other guys from the States visit occasionally, but as there's little commonality in models I guess there's not much scope for technical discussions.

Probably room for some "General Chat" though, I'm always interested to hear about the motoring scene elsewhere. I do feel a sort of connection with  the US at times - I'm frequently buzzed by F15s  from the USAF 48th Fighter Wing at Lakenheath doing low flying training!😀

We did a few of our own diesels in the 70's & 80's to disastrous results. BMW sold some diesel models, but not successfully.

VW has famously faced scandal for introducing diesel models that were programmed to falsify their emissions data so they'd pass regs, but emit more than what was allowed. VW was forced to buy back all diesel VW's sold in the US.

There's some. I've watched every episode of Top Gear and feel a (slight) camaraderie. I hope 🙂

"That noise you hear is the sound of freedom!" - or so what's been posted outside Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. I get it. Cheers, mate!

Does Britain use and/or require ethanol in its fuels?

We are using E10 at the moment.

Just for a laugh..   in the UK today

1 US gallon of unleaded E10 petrol is $7.60 or more

1 US gallon of diesel is $8.45
