What key and chip to buy 09 focus

Featured Replies

Good evening peeps,,

im going to attempt the PATS programming of 3 new keys for my 09 focus 1.8 TDCi as I only have 1 key at the moment, this I think means I’ll have to delete all keys and reprogram, thinking of buying 2 more keys one flip and one standard key,,, and program all 3 to my car,, that way should I lose one key I’ll be able to just do the key in ignition to add another and unsink the lost or broken one.

my question is does anyone know what chip is in the key ??

thanks in advance

I did a key for my brothers 1.8tdci focus mk2.5 .   Built late 2008 registered 2009.   I bought 4d63 .  Used forscan with extended licence and it worked.  Can’t remember exact process but followed stuff I found on internet.

Hi thanks for reply,,, did you have to delete all keys then add your new one or did you just another key ??

Can’t be certain , it was 2 or 3 years ago. I think I just added another key.  I would probably have remembered if I had to delete all keys as I would have been worried that I might end up with a non-working car if it all went wrong. I was using a tunnel rat obd reader thing with usb cable to a windows laptop with forscan extended licence. I was quite relieved when it all went well. It’s the only time I have done this

I got a key blade cut from a photo from an eBay seller.  That worked perfectly.

Awesome mate I’ve ordered a flip key from fleabay and I’ve YouTube’d a couple of videos and I’m thinking I’ll defo just add a key and if that goes well I’ll get another one. Couple of videos they had issues with keys but I’ll defo give it a whirl and take a few screen shots and post up if it all goes well 🤣

One of the things I do recall which I think I got from a forscan forum:  before programming new key , try starting car with new key.   Of course it won’t disarm the immobiliser.  Then read the fault codes.  The fault code will say a) it could not read the new chip   Or  b)  It will say it read the chip but it did not match the chip codes in the ecu.   This is a good thing to do as it verifies if it’s the correct type of chip.  Of course (b) is what you want the result to be.   If it’s (a) then it’s not going to work.    I can’t recall what the two codes are.   But this does seem to be a sensible initial check.

Awesome mate thanks for that I will definitely do that first,,, well after I get the key cut 🤣🤣

one video he did buy a secondhand genuine fob and used the chip out of that as the one he got didn’t work. So worst case scenario I’ll buy 2 secondhand just for the chips
