Focus 2017 Mk3 ST-3 headlights

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought a 67 plate Focus 2017 Mk3 ST-3 last year. I went to watch a road rally last weekend and found the headlights  rubbish in the lanes. I went to see a mate who has a MOT centre and I mentioned the lights. I thought the low and main beam were all HID, but he noticed that the bulbs nearer the grill are halogen. The halogen bulbs however do not come on either with low or main beam? My mate thinks they may need to be reprogrammed. Anyone got any thoughts or know what I need to do to get them to work?

Thanks.

A 2017 ST-3 has bi-xenon’s, the same light source is used for high and low beam. I found them nice and bright significantly better than halogens and the steering of the beam is really helpful on country lanes. They will dim with age but I wouldn’t think they’d be that bad on a 2017 yet. Have you checked the aim?

I believe the halogens are used when you flash your lights as it doesn’t do the xenon HIDs good to flash them.

I found the the ST3 lights slightly underwhelming, i replaced the bulbs with some osram xenarc nightbreakers, much better.

The halogens are used for cornering lights.

On mine 'flashing' is done with the bi-xenons.

A 2014 will be a pre facelift and doesn’t have xenon’s that can steer, hence the static halogen cornering lights.

A 2017 has xenon’s that can swivel as you steer to light up the corners. I can’t quite remember how my 2015 facelift used the halogens, I was thinking they just flashed but it may have been the xenon’s.

Mines a facelift so got the bendy lights.

Ok. I was just going by your profile. The facelift mk3 ST came out in 2015.

It seems odd for Ford to have both static cornering lights and swivelling xenon’s.

Yeah mines weird. 64 plate facelift.

Hi thanks for this. Were these a straight swap for the original xenon lights?

Thanks

Yeh. There's a YouTube video showing the swap if your not sure.
