ECOSPORT 1.0 ENGINE

Featured Replies

Anyone had any major engine issues with the 1.0 lt petrol model, although  i am nowhere near 50,000 miles ,but was told by someone "in the know" that at that mileage they have had lots of engines go pop 😣

(The1.5 lt engines are ok  though it seems ))

there have been one or two people that have had minor problems with the 1.0 ecoboom engine. Just use the search on the forum for ecoboost replacement engines

A couple of threads here on the subject (there are several more):

https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/95740-2013-10l-ecoboost-engine-rust-problem/

https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/98500-ecoboost-low-oil-pressure/

For balance, it does seem that the oil pressure issue is most likely to affect cars that have not had regular oil changes with the correct grade of oil and/or an engine flush has been used.

possibly brace yourself for more of a horror story rather than 'they lived happily ever after'

Oil problem is a real issue, even on well maintained ecosport. I'm currently working on a 18 1.0 with 70k, oil changed on schedule using proper grade. Oil belt tensioner exploded, causing low pressure. Engine shutdown within 2 miles. Still runs and sounds ok. Was going to do a complete rebuild, however, parts are very hard to find. Lady bought it new and has made a little over half the payments. She cannot afford (a ford made me smile) a new engine, also hard to find, so, because Ford engineers designed a horrid engine with obvious design flaws (working on this pos is a nightmare) she's gonna have to pay out the kazoo. I'm probably gonna make it run, long enough to trade it for a better brand, I'm suggesting Hyundai (they replaced thousands of engines in 2013 Sonata) Ford should make these right for their customers, or they will lose them. Stay away from the ecosport, in fact, stay away for anything with eco in the name

Ta Steve, will run it for a couple more years then get rid after reading that, only do approx 4,000 miles a year now, so by the time its 5 years old only will have done approx 20,000 as on 12,000 now. 😢

I am assured by my Ford dealer that a properly serviced Ecoboost engine should give no more trouble than any other make of wet belt engine, but at seven years of age but only 37'000 miles I intend replacing the belt as it is still cheaper than replacing the car however I have just read on Facebook of an Ecosport owner having his engine replaced FOC by Ford because it had less than 60'000 miles on the clock ? Anyone heard of this ?   PS I no longer have the Focus ( or the following 62 plate Fiesta but this Ecosport will probably be my last cat at aged 90 !

That's a hell of an age for an Ecosport. I'd know idea they had been around as long 🤣

You have to read through what he's saying very carefully. There are many other engines around that have wet belts and most of them have issues.

Yes I might have read about that, think the guy was called Hans Christian Andersen, he wrote a few books. Although I don't recall the one about the reliability of the Ecoboost 1.0 engine 🤔

It seems the Feds are onto the case over in the States:

Indeed. You only have to search "Peugeot Puretech problems" to see a similar story.

Saw this letter pasted onto a motoring site which seems interesting,an  Ecosport owner enquired to Ford about  the wetbelt engine  US recall but not in the UK🤔

IMG_4249.jpeg

You see, that is a complete bending of the truth!

The USA recall is for engines mated to the 6F15 automatic transmission which is different to the manual engines, yes

But the USA spec Ecobooms with the vile, unreliable 6F15 gearboxes are EXACTLY the same as the EU ones

Ta for that Dave.

I emailed Ford UK and enquired anout their supposed "Ecoboost Wetbelt Goodwill Support Scheme " out of interest at [email protected]. thinking a reply would be from a UK base, reply came simply saying 'contact your local dealer ' and had 'arrived at 1658 South African time' 😤😤

(Daughters 15 plate Fiesta's engine went last week at 58,000, RAC attended and diagnosed cambelt (wetbelt) gone , so engine is zapped.

Only had it 6 months , 3 months warranty given off used car dealer but has no service history ,so imagine its missed a few, told her to walk away from buying it  , but no...now battling with the finance company to take it back under trades description act ,but dont hold out much hope !)

Presumably this one as discussed on another thread?

It looks like if you've shelled out for an engine in the past, due to belt issues, then Ford will now reimburse

Let's hope so. Just looking at the Pumaspeed website - I see they've now sold 748 new 1.0 ecoboosts. Some of those cases may well be eligible.

.

I read that as people who still have knackered belts and couldn't afford to fix can ask again.  Not those that had new engines fitted already.

Would be interesting to test that theory though.

They'd be getting the invoice from me.

You originally said no

I had to buy and fit my own engine

Now you're saying you will

Here's the invoice

As I said elsewhere, it's capable of being read various ways.........  😀
