06 Focus 1.6 petrol sport estate vehicle speed sensor location

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me where to find the vehicle speed sensor on the above vehicle!

Vehicle speed is taken from the ABS sensors on modern cars (roughly 2000 onwards).

Is it not still on the gearbox, like MK1 Focus, on these early MK2s?

Hmm, possibly - Ford do like to lag behind with technology!

Edit - It should be on the back of the gearbox, directly above the diff/driveshaft on the engine side.

MK2/MK2.5 versions without ABS have a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

MK2/MK2.5 versions with ABS do no longer have a VSS and use the ABS sensors to calculate speed.

To be honest in western Europe a Focus MK2/MK2.5 without ABS is extremely rare because ABS was a standard safety feature in most European countries. The only MK2 I have ever seen without ABS was an imported vehicle from Poland.

Thanks for the replies. There seems to be a bit of uncertainty about which gearbox is fitted to my model. I don't know if the diagnostic showed P500..vehicle speed sensor a malfunction, will throw any light on the subject but i know for sure that it has ABS so i guess that said, that contradicts wilcos theory that vehicles with ABS don't have VSS, strange, anyway, thanks again.

If you PM me your reg, I'll confirm which gearbox is fitted.

just had a look under the bonnet to see if i could make out what the sensor was and lo and behold i just shut the bonnet down and bit the bullet and decided to give it to a mechanic to sort out as i couldn't see any way to access the box without removing a whole load of other stuff. thanks again all.
