17" multi spokes to 18" snowflakes on 2018 St line

Featured Replies

Hi, I've got a 2018 focus 1.0 st line 140 bhp (mk3.5) and have bought some 18" snowflake alloys.

Are these a straight fit ?

Looking at 235/40/18 tyres.

Thanks.

Craig.

Yes, they're a straight swap.

If the snowflakes are from a Mk2 Focus, they'll probably use the older style wheel nuts, not the global ones fitted to your car.

Ideally you should fit steering rack limiters when upgrading to 18s or larger, but most people seem to get away without.  All they do is physically limit the amount of steering lock available...so unless you regularly make very tight turns (multistorey carpark, for example) it'll probably be fine.

Doesn't the later versions already have a limiter? I am sure somebody said the MK3 did anyways.

Edit: in fact yes a quote from wilco

On the Focus MK3 / MK3.5 the steering rack limiters are configured into the PSCM (Power Steering Control Module which is part of the steering rack) . The steering rack limiters are configured by performing a procedure using the Ford IDS or FDRS diagnostic system. This procedure basically changes the programmed end positions of the steering rack. Officially the installation of steering rack limiters can not be undone and is irreversible. Just removing the plastic U-shaped washers will not be enough to remove the steering rack limiters.

Unless I've read that wrong, it sounds like you can programme the rack not to extend so far, but not that it's limited as standard?

Maybe I read it wrong then 😂
