Engine picture: what has gone wrong?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2010 Ford Galaxy that a number plate search tells me is a “TITAN X TDCI138” - I’m very much not a car expert. Recently there has been the smell of fumes in the car when the heating has been on. Today I also noticed damage to part of the engine cover when topping up the washer fluid. It's booked into a garage but I would be grateful if anyone can give me any idea of the problem and solution - I always feel easily led in a garage as I’m so ignorant about cars.

Thanks in advance,

Kate

Thanks, helpful! I'll wait and see what the garage suggest for old age, perhaps euthanasia unofix?

The cover is easy replaced, they just disintegrate with time. You should be able to pick one up a scrapyard or even on eBay.

Injector Cover Ford Galaxy 2.0 Tdci  part number 9682444080

for example:

Thanks unofix, presumably that's not the cause of the fumes smell then? Or is it a linked symptom?

Is there a name for that cover part? Searching for engine cover just comes up with the main large hard plastic piece.

It's the engine injector cover. I've just edited my original post above with a link and part number.

There is a slight possibility that this could cause fumes to enter the heating air intake

Thank you, much appreciated!

If you are getting diesel smell in the car it could be leak from injector seals (where fuel injectors go into top of engine) .you could take cover off and see if you can spot any wet diesel fuel anywhere. Diesel is like a thin oil and does not evaporate away quickly like petrol does, so easier to spot.
