AFter lifting the carpet  in the footwell  i cut a way the soaked  S/ proofing  now looking for new material any ideas.Looks like the the steering column gasket is leakiing . going into garage this Saturday.

    to fix a leaking steering column gasket? What fluid has leaked out of it?

    Think he means rain water leaking in through the bulkhead.  Though I'd be double checking the windscreen seal and the front drainage holes myself.

    For the sound proofing, you can use Cloud 9 carpet underlay.  Comes in different thicknesses.  It wasn't cheap last time I checked but you might be able to find a small off cut at a local carpet shop.  

    Can also combine it with Dynamat if necessary.
