Keyless stop start help

Featured Replies

I am looking to possibly get rid of my Clio and venture into the world of Ford, i have been looking at the ST line focus as my car of choice the 1litre ecoboost. Now the concern i have is the the keyless tech ie stop start im looking at possibly a 2017-2018 model not sure i could stretch any further.

What are the best ways of making this as secure as possible re storing the keys etc.. Do the Focus St lines have keyless entry? I can't seem to find a definate answer. Do you get a physical key as a backup as well shoulkd the battery run out?

Still a lot of thinking to do any help opinions most welcome.

Keep the keys in a Faraday pouch they are very cheap to buy, yes they do come with a physical key.

The 1l ecoboost has many good technical selling points, but long term reliability and cost of long term servicing are not among them. At 5 years old it may be not too long before a timing belt change is needed, and this is a complex & expensive procedure. There are also concerns about the cooling system, with rust problems on some parts, and gradual weakening of plastic mouldings due to the high temperature these engines operate at is inevitable.

I suggest investigating servicing costs, including timing belt (unless it has a chain), and reliability history if you plan to keep a 2017/18 car with this engine for more than 3 or 4 years. See:

If you’re worried about security… there are a few aftermarket options available to you to ensure the keyless entry/start isn’t a worry.

autowatch ghost is a good one. Uses the buttons in your car as a key code.

There are others too, which use rfid tags or cards placed on the dash to enable the car etc etc…

if you’re that worried, then that’s the route I’d go down. I had Ghost on my previous ST.
