64 plate focus 1.0lecoboost engine failure

Featured Replies

Hi I have a focus 1.0l ecoboost I  have been topping coolant up on it  every couple of weeks not thinking anything was wrong  last Wednesday I was on a motorway slip road and car died with no warning  the car is 7yrs 4 months old  a mechanic looked at car said engine is toast no compression is there any way I can go to ford with a claim to repair car the car has74000 miles can anyone advise please

You were topping up the coolant every few weeks but didn’t think anything was wrong? How long did this go on for? The coolant should generally last between service intervals without top ups.

If you’d taken it as soon as you noticed it losing coolant it’s possible something might have been able to be done. But as it was left I’m not sure you’ve got much chance.

It was just topping expansion tank up not much coolant was used prob about half a cup full over a week  to two weeks it only started doing it  about 3 weeks ago

When you found out the loss of coolant 3 weeks ago you should have diagnosed the cause (or have a professional diagnosed the cause) of the coolant loss instead of topping up the coolant and still driving the car.

You basically neglected the fact that there was a serious problem (coolant loss) and deliberally took a huge risk by driving the car which resulted in serious damage (engine failure).

Warranty ended Years ago. The damage may be covered by the 1.0 ECOboost goodwill support program but it fully depends on the cause of the damage.

The goodwill support program (only in the UK) fully covers all damage if the damage is caused by a failed degas hose. The 1.0 ECOboost goodwill support program is only applicable on vehicles built between March 2012 and April 2015.

Engine damage which is not caused by a failed degas hose is not covered.
