Serpentine belt not tightening

Featured Replies

Hey, I've replaced the tensioner pulley on my 2003 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 Petrol and I've put the belt back on all of the pulleys, but for some reason the belt is still slack as if theres a pulley missing.

What have I done wrong?

I can’t really see enough of it. Can you give us a photo along the top including the power steering pump and tensioner towards the back, and on mine 2001 1.6 petrol mk1 focus there was a wheel along the top belt run that deflected the belt a bit from a straight run from front to back.   I know it doesn’t help much now but when I take these belts off I draw a diagram or take photos because I know they can be tricky to work out the belt route

Belt is threaded wrong.

Take a look at this site:  https://www.2carpros.com/diagrams/ford/focus/2003

That diagram is wrong too.  PAS in place of alternator.

However, I think the water pump is the wrong one for the OP, should be the other side of the crank so the crank gets a good ~70% wrap as that's the part that's most likely to slip.

This is the setup of this engine. Taken from the Haynes manual.

As far as I can tell I've done it correctly.

Have a look at that again...you've got the waterpump the wrong side of the crank.

Currently you've got the waterpump between the crank and the AC pump...

Should be more like the redline....sorry bad drawing not helped by angle of photo 😂
