Mk3.5 manual gearbox oil change

Featured Replies

Hi I’m planning to change the gearbox oil on my focus 6speed manual. The Haynes book says it holds 1.67 litres. It then says about removing 0.50litres. So technically I only need to put in 1.17litres. Has anyone does this or any tips?

Many thanks

Filling the transmission oil of the 6-speed B6 transmission requires the following procedure:

1: Fill the transmission until the level is flush with the filler plug. This requires 2,17 Litres of oil.
2: Drain 0,5 Litres of oil from the transmission to obtain the correct oil level . Which brings the amount of oil inside the transmission to 1,67 Litres.

As an alternative you can fully drain the transmission (make sure that all oil is drained) and just fill 1,67 of oil.

That explains it better, thank you

That is ambiguous. From personal experience of 6 speed Focus MK3 & 3.5, I can empirically say that the capacity is 1.67 litres but that includes the 500ml drop after filling to the fill plug (ie you fill to 2.1l then drop back to 1.67)

I can also add that most independent garages will just fill until the fill plug overflows. The 6 speed gearbox is not air sealed at the top so perhaps overfilling by this 500ml can be accommodated.

Motul multi (grade) DCTF or Castrol FE 75W

The difference between WSS & WSD is 75w and 80w so the WSS is used in cooler climates eg UK WSD in Spain! UK Ford dealers only stock WSS
