Seatbelt Warning - bloomin' nuisance!

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to turn these things off?

I know how many passengers are in the car, and who has belts done up and who hasn't, I don't need my dashboard display cluttered up by images of car seats with ticks on them!

latest annoyance - booster seat fitted in the back of the car for my grandchild. Dropped grandchild off the other day, - drove away "BEEP BEEP BEEP", THEN LOUDER "BEEP BEEP BEEEP", Image of seat position with the booster on it overlaid with a big red blob with exclamation mark in it! The booster is on the nearside rear seat.

Stopped to investigate - found cause - wife's handbag ( small one, no weight at all in it (no, really!), is sitting on the centre of the rear seat cushion, next to the booster seat. Removed handbag, warning stopped ...

Oversensitive or what? The seatbelt sensors, not me that is. Well, maybe ...

Has been a European legal requirement on all cars since about 2017ish

Anoying as they are you can't disable them, and it is classed as part of the safety restraint warning system which is checked at MOT time.

You can turn off monitoring with Forscan but not the audible warning

as DaveT70 says, or go scrapper and get a plug in end and stick in the slot will shut it up.

Or leave the seatbelt plugged in, of course - but try telling a 6-year old that!

Hi, it's worth checking the connection to the rear seat sensors, mine wasn't plugged in correctly giving intermittent false warnings. It's under the seat cushion on the driver's side, lift the cushion up and feel for the wiring harness underneath, there should be a plug in connector - just check the two parts are clicked in properly.

I've never had mine triggered by anything sitting on rear seats other than passengers but originally had warnings if someone left the car it still thought they were there! No issues since clicking the connecter together properly.

ign on, plug seat belt in 4 times and leave in unbuckled state  after  .Not tried to see if it works on a focus

You may be able to recalibrate the seat weight sensors with a decent diag tool

Fixed - just not putting wife's handbag on back seat if child seat is fitted! Have for years had to put seatbelts around bags of shopping and the like, which at least stops the shopping bag from falling over ...

Taking my mum on holiday, with a Maltese dog in the back seat, hope that doesn't set the sensors off.

Should be fine.  They are the lighter way to enjoy dogs after all.

I know this thread has been dormant for quite awhile, but I thought rather than start a new thread on the subject of the 'Seatbelt warning' display in the IPC, I'd just add this new video here. (Sorry it's in German but it does have English subtitles).
