Rear screenwasher failed (estate).

Featured Replies

Hi

No water coming out of the rear nozzle (no sign of dampness externally at all).

The screen wash is coming out of the reservoir as I can see the level dropping when I switch the pump on (which I can hear). Can anyone advise me the most likely place that the leak might be/if it's happened to you, where was your leak?

Thanks.

Inside the roof lining at the rear of the car, or in the boot lid itself is where i've had it before on two different cars.

Could be anywhere tho... you may need to employ a helpful friend to pull the lever while you poke about and see what feels wet!

As Dave has said I think you may need some one to give you a hand.

Buy some very strong smelling screen wash, the stronger the smell the better and use it undiluted. If you have a leak inside the car you will smell the screen wash.

Where the pipe goes from the body of the car across to the tail gate can be a week spot. Also in the head lining just before the pipe goes to the tail gate there is a small connector (often has a non-return valve in it). These are made of a hard plastic which can become quite brittle.

Thank you for your replies. I pulled the pipe apart at the white right-angled connector just before it gets to the tailgate (didn't appear to have a NRV in it). I pushed the stalk forwards and after a few seconds, water started to come out of the pipe at the connector at a decent flowrate. So I reassembled the pipe and it seems to be working fine now 😊

I'm not at all sure what I've done but if it ain't broke I'm not going to try to fix it any further. Maybe I've dislodged a blockage??? But then where was the water going when I saw the level in the reservoir going down by a couple of inches??? One of life's mysteries.

Mystery indeed! But at least it’s now working!
