Engine warning light - Temperature related

Featured Replies

This morning on the way to work a warning light came on and the temperature spiked.  I turned the engine off, waited for a few minutes and then carried on and all appeared to be fine.

I have checked the obvious, coolant level, no leaks etc.

Vehicle is a 2011 FORD FOCUS ZETEC (125) 5DR HATCH PETROL 1596CC MANUAL

Any ideas where to start to look??

Use FORScan and read the DTC, if the EML has been on there must be a reason.

It might be as simple as a thermostat starting to stick but best to check the fault history first.

I have just started the engine again and I have also noticed there is a red battery light displayed.

The temperature warning has not come on while the engine is idling five minutes in.

It's just you, that looks perfectly fine 🤣

Actually you are missing the serpentine auxiliary drive belt which powers things such as: (a) Alternator (b) water pump (c) power steering (if not electric) (d) A/C compressor

A cheap fix but a bit of a pain to thread around all the pulleys. Be very careful fitting it, you can easily get it wrong.

Would that explain the battery warning light and the temperature warning if the water pump isn’t working?

100% yes.

You need a new belt

Fair enough. I take it it has snapped then.
