Mk7 100 t350 RWD Engine Surge

Featured Replies

Hi all. My transit started doing something really strange yesterday, I don't know if anyone has ever encountered this. It's a MK7 100 T350 RWD, and it is limited to 70mph. The reason why I mention the limit is that the problem seems to only occur when I hit 70mph. What's happening is, at 70 the engine suddenly jolts as though it is trying to cut out. It's intermittent, but when it happens, I see the revs drop off quick and the battery light flicker, followed simultaneously with a  sudden 3 or 4 jolts. I don't know if it's at that rev range (just under 2500rpm) or if it is at 70mph when hitting the speed limiter. It doesn't do it any other time, and the battery is charging just fine. I ran it down by accident yesterday in Liverpool when leaving the ignition on, and it was slow to turn over. After running, it had charged back up and was starting normally, so I can't see it being an alternator issue.

I drove back 20 odd minutes from my Dad's yesterday and nothing happened, prior to that I was driving back from Chorley and within 20 minutes of leaving there to getting to the motorway it did it twice within the space of a few hundred yards, so after that I kept it at around 68mph, and it was fine O.o.

Yeah, any help on this would be awesome.. I'm back in Lancaster today and hoping nothing else happens 😧 .. Going to keep a steady speed.

Right, seems it does it under load or if going over bumps, not just at 70.. Or it can go a whole hour, and over without doing it. I think this is a typical me rabbit hole problem cos it could be anything now. Still, it never seems to do it until I get to the motorway lol. Even if I give it beans on a normal road, it doesn't do it or going down a cobble street. Just seems to do it at sustained RPM loads, ***** weird >.>.
