Most folk on this forum will have one car, not really selling it for bits. Try putting your request into Ebay description, or do a search for a local car breaker. There is also a 'for sale' forum on here:

Many thanks

Do you have glass cover on your insurance?  That may cover the rear screen for a small excess.

That's a shame.  Always have to check the small print with insurance!

Have you contacted any local car glass companies to ask for quotes?

If you just want used glass, and not the whole tailgate, then any breakers yard should have a Mk2 Focus in.  I'm not sure how many will risk cutting the screen out though.  Swapping the tailgate whole is easier, but difficult to find the correct colour in good condition nowadays.

Must confess I'm very much against that. What on earth do you check the 'small print' for? You can't envisage every eventuality that you may need to claim on your insurance. There should be an element of 'goodwill' from the insurance company in that, you bought comprehensive from us, and even though the rear screen was not specifically mentioned, as decent human beings, we'll cover it! Of course, I live in cloud cuckoo land and that will never happen 😂

Well, at the very least I check the level of glass cover and the excesses for it, as that's what I'm most likely to claim on insurance for!

Decent human beings in the insurance industry?  Literally an industry built on fear that only profits when those fears never occur?  Hmm... :whistling:

Yes, a lot of the swines only cover the windscreen these days, unless its an crash accident with body damage etc etc.

My mate found out the hard way earlier this year when some toe rag smashed the panoramic sun roof on his 70 plate 330 M Sport Beemer

I always expected comprehensive ins to cover all glass - idiot me - but I am sure it used to

My "windscrenn" cover is "Glass" cover - or at least it was some years back when someone shoved a brick through the tailgate glass on my estate at 1 in the morning on new years day! By 9am I was in Autoglass' local repair shop, by 12 I was driving away with a new rear window! Not bad for the first 11 hours of the new year.

It isn't just the glass - they tend to be bonded in these days so the fitting is not straightforward.

Panoramic roofs are often specifically excluded, as are windscreens on certain cars such as Bentleys etc (I remember seeing this on a policy some years ago)

Wording on my current policy under the heading "Windscreen damage" says "We''l replace or repair broken glass in the windscreen, sunroof or windows of your car". Plus scratching of the bodywork caused by the broken glass. I've also just noticed an extra clause specifically aimed at my other car - an MX5 - it reads "If your car has a folding roof we'll replace the roof and rear windscreen assembly together if this is more cost effective than replacing the glass alone"

Aahhh yes, the Bentley, I remember now reading that on my policy and being disappointed... 🤣

I once claimed for a windscreen on a Discovery, arranged for it to be done a couple of days later when I would be around. Later that day whilst cutting the grass I managed to fire a stone through the back window. Ended up both being done at the same time and only got charged for one lot of excess £50.

Excluding body glass (unless damaged in a collision) seems to be more common these days so I always check the policy document to be sure.

If the Bentley's windscreen breaks I just get the butler to replace the car.

Have you actually checked the wording of the policy.  I thought it covered all windows although I was aware some exclude sunroofs.   Just because they tell you it’s not covered does not mean it’s true.  There are people who work for insurance companies who talk rubbish either deliberately or incompetence or genuine mistake.  Having worked for many insurance companies I say that from experience.

If your policy under the Windscreen section includes Window glass then you should be covered as the rear tailgate is window glass, I would certainly argue the point with them and ask to speak to a supervisor. Like Isetta says people in the call centre's tend to be of the what " computer says " mentality and not common sense users  so if tailgate glass is not mentioned then they may think it isn't covered when in fact unless it is specifically mentioned as an exclusion it is covered.
